The Family Resource Program

   The Family Resource Program is a CWA negotiated benefit.  The contract provides the following benefits free of charge to all CWA members who work for Lucent Technologies.

    Today, one in five working parents is faced with the dual challenge, caring for both young children and one or more older adult relatives.  Due to the aging of the American population, this “ Sandwich Generation” is growing, and many are feeling the pressures of their dual care-giving responsibilities.  The Lucent Family Resource Program can help employees manage these care-giving responsibilities.  Contact the Family Resource Program for: 

§         Referrals to local community resources that provide child care and elder care

§         Educational materials on a range of care giving topics

§         Tips on how to avoid or alleviate “caregiver burnout”

§         FREE child and adult safety kits containing valuable resources to help you prevent common household accidents

   Whether you are pregnant or adopting a child, you have a lot to think about!  Becoming a parent is a wonderful and exciting time, but requires much preparation.  To help you get ready for the arrival of your baby, contact Lucent’s Family Resource Program for information on a variety of topics, including tips on preparing your nursery.

    For instance, here are some quick tips to ensure that your child’s crib is safe:

·         Make sure slats are spaced no more than 2 3/8 inches (60 mm) apart and that none are missing or cracked.

·         The mattress should fit snugly - less than two fingers width between edge of mattress and crib side - and be securely attached to the headboard and footboard.

·         The drop-side latches should securely hold the sides in the raised position and should not be easily released by a baby.

·         Make sure all screws or bolts that secure components of crib are present and tight and the paint or finish is non-toxic.

    Prenatal kits containing the “What to Expect” series, as well as other useful literature and baby products are available FREE of charge to employees who are expecting or adopting an infant.
